Ghent's recorded history begins in the Middle Ages and reminders of its past are evident when you cruise the romantic canal past some of its most iconic medieval landmarks. This sensational tour begins with a scenic bus ride through the charming Flemish countryside to Ghent where your boat awaits. Once aboard, on-board commentary points out areas of interest. Set your sights and camera on the buildings that line the canal like the Old Guild Halls with gabled rooftops and decorative facades built for the town's boatmen, bricklayers, corn-measurers, fishmongers and grain traders. Then, you'll glide past the impressive Castle of the Counts, the residence of the Counts of Flanders from 1180 to 1353; the old Fish Market and 13th-century monasteries previously inhabited by the Augustins and Dominicans. Once in the center of Ghent, you'll disembark for an hour of free time before rejoining the boat and returning to the pier.
