The walking tour through Zadar's Old Town begins on the pier. A short distance away you will find yourself in the heart of this magnificent district. Visit the Cathedral of St Anastasia -- the finest example of Romanesque architecture in Zadar. St Anastasia's stone sarcophagus lies in the apse to the left of the high altar. You will also see the 9th-century Church of St Donatus, believed to have been built by Bishop Donatus on the foundations of a Roman temple. This is perhaps the most interesting church on in the eastern Adriatic; it is circular in plan and boasts three naves. In the Forum, you'll find the 16th-century St Mary's Church and Convent. Its Romanesque bell tower was built at the beginning of the 12th century by Hungarian-Croatian King Koloman. On the upper floor of the convent, open to the public, are rooms containing a collection of goldsmiths' work, relics and other valuable items. Your tour ends with a wine, cheese and Marascino liqueur tasting at the Arsenal Tavern, situated in the Old Town of Zadar near the pier. The production of Marascino liqueur in Zadar dates back almost 400 years and this beverage was a favorite among the royal households of Europe.
