Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

For over 1,800 years, the faithful have followed a pilgrimage route to the Ise Shrine on the Kii Peninsula. Considered Shinto's holiest shrine, it's rebuilt every 20 years in accordance with the Shinto principles of purity and renewal. Your journey through time begins with a drive that takes you south to the town of Ise. Once you leave the city's hustle and bustle, you'll enter the quiet countryside and into an ancient forest. After you arrive at the shrine, you'll disembark, cross the Uji Bridge and observe pilgrims purifying their hands in the Isuzu River. Feel the serenity as you view the major shrine 'Naiku' (inner shrine). After your tour you're free to stroll along the Okage Yokocho, a small district that recreates Japanese towns dating back to the Edo Period in 1603. Here, you can treat yourself to lunch and shop before returning to Yokkaichi.

Special Notes:

Guests will need to negotiate approximately 60 steps at Ise Shrine, uneven ground and gravel roads.
This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility. Guests are prohibited from taking photos in certain parts of the Ise Shrine area. Japanese yen is recommended for additional purchases.
