Take in the sweeping views from some of the most historical sites in Wakayama Prefecture beginning with a tour of Wakayama Castle. Originally built in 1585, bombing in WWII destroyed most of the original castle buildings but the faithful reconstruction has successfully recreated an aura of power and authority. The castle's central tower displays weapons and armor worn by samurai warriors during the Edo period and the main tower offers panoramic views of the city and Wakayama Bay. More stunning views await at the Miyama Battery, a naval defense fort built during the Meiji Period (1868 to 1912). From the observation deck you'll enjoy sweeping views of the island of Tomogashima and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, which stretches over the Akashi Strait. Your last stop of the day is the Awashima-jinja Shrine, home to 20,000 dolls and the Girl's Day festival, which dates back to 1687.
Special Notes:
There are about 300 steps and no lift at Wakayama Castle.The guests are required to walk for 20 mins from the parking lot at Miyama Battery Site & Observation Deck.
And there are also about 50 steps. Part of walking during the tour is on uneven bare ground.
This tour is not recommended for passengers with walking difficulties.
