Explore the significance of art and wine in the local culture; and with a local artist leading the way, you're sure to get an in-depth look. First on the itinerary is a visit to Tanioka Lacquer Craft Shop, noted for its Kishu lacquerware, an art form that dates back 600 years. Traditional artisan Kumiko Tanioka will conduct the tour and share the time-honored methods and techniques behind the painstaking manufacturing process of Kishu lacquerware. Learn how Kishu is distinguished by its simple yet sophisticated decorations with inlays of sea shells, pearl, gold and silver foil. After discovering the traditional Japanese art of lacquerware, you will travel to Nakano BC Brewery, a well-known sake brewery that also produces "tarujikomi umeshu hyakuyaku," a liqueur made from cask-aged plum. After a brewery tour, you'll attend a workshop where you will enjoy learning about its history and making your own plum wine.
