Visby was the Baltic center of the Hanseatic League from the 12th to the 14th century. Today this shining example of a medieval townscape is perfectly suited to exploration by foot on a guided tour. A short motorcoach ride brings you to the eastern areas of this fascinating walled city. Set off across a short bridge that spans the moat before heading through the 12th-century Dalmans Gate into this inhabited historical town and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll down cobbled streets to a majestic viewpoint above St. Mary Church before wending down a labyrinth of tiny lanes past elegant houses and ancient church ruins. Stop to admire the "Big Square," then walk under the arched Fisherman's Gate to the Botanical Garden blooming with an abundance of roses and exotic foliage. Depart this tranquil setting for Almedalen before returning to the ship.

Special Notes:

Participants will encounter cobblestone streets in Visby and some uneven terrain elsewhere. Wear comfortable walking shoes. The walk includes hill and a stair case down.
