Board your motorcoach for the drive to the old capital of Mdina. Your walking tour enters via the Mdina Gate, built in 1724 by French architect Charles François de Mondion. The city's walls date to the Norman conquest of 1091. Continue to the Cathedral of St. Paul, supposedly built on the site where the Roman Governor Publius welcomed St. Paul to the island. The cathedral floor is inlaid with marble tombstones while the vault is decorated with paintings chronicling the life of St. Paul. Walk to nearby Rabat and tour the St Paul's Grotto, Underground shelters & St Publius Chapel.Tour Mdina Glass Factory, founded in 1968. The Factory won international acclaim for its fine art glass. Tour the factory and watch master craftsmen at work before visiting the showroom.
Special Notes:
During the Island Princess on April 7th, 2023 (Good Friday), the Wignacourt Museum in Rabat will be closed.The visit will be replaced with a walking tour of Rabat.
This tour requires extensive walking over uneven and broken surfaces. Not recommended for guests with limited mobility or in wheelchairs.
Dress conservatively when visiting the cathedral. Clothing should cover the arms and legs. Shorts are not permitted for men or women. Wear warm-weather clothing and comfortable walking shoes. Bring a hat and adequate sun protection.
Glassblowers at Mdina Glass will not be working on Sundays and Public Holidays, but the showroom and workshops will be open.Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
