It's a half-day of both scenic and cultural beauty in Wakasa. Enjoy the journey to this mountain town as you ride along the Lake Mikatagoko Rainbow Drive, which offers 11.2 kilometers of superlative views of the Mikata Five Lakes, a collective name for five sparkling lakes surrounded by ever-changing seasonal colors. Upon reaching the cable car station, you'll ride to the mountaintop for bird's-eye views of the lakes and surrounding scenery. After snapping photos, proceed to a chopstick workshop in town. Chopstick making in Wakasa dates back to the Edo Period, and 80 percent of Japanese lacquered chopsticks are made in Wakasa. Here, you will have a chance to polish your own chopsticks and take them home as a lovely memento of the day. Conclude at the Wakasa Fisherman's wharf, facing out onto Obama Bay, with souvenir shops and a restaurant, which you can enjoy at your own expense. Enjoy a leisurely ride back to port.
