Leave the pier for a hour city tour by motorcoach including a photostop at Kristansten Fortress, one of the most historical buildings in Trondheim. This impressive building was built in 1681 to protect the city from invaders, which it successful did in 1718, when Swedish forces lay siege of Trondheim. View the white-washed defensive tower, and enjoy the panoramic vistas before continuing downhill to Bakklandet, where the tour continues on foot. This charming district boasts cobblestone streets, wooden houses, shops, boutiques and cafes. A fun highlight is the world's only bicycle lift, which ascends Brubakken Hill, and is part of the town's attempts to keep the population healthy, and pollution at a low level. Cross the old wooden City Bridge, that spans the Nidelva River, as you make your way to Nidaros Cathedral, which dates back to the 12th century, and is built on the gravesite of Norway's patron saint, Saint Olav.
