Thrill to the sight of prized Lipizzaner horses perform the Classical School of Riding at the Lipica Stud Farm in Slovenia. Ideal for families and equestrians, the visit also includes a meet and greet with the horses during a stable tour. From Trieste you'll travel through a landscape of Karst, a Slovene name given to all the amazing phenomena that dot the spectacular countryside. Karst, which is created by water in fusible limestone, can be found in almost half of the country. Upon arrival at the Lipica Stud Farm, you'll learn that it has bred Lipizzaner horses for over 400 years and most commonly associated with Vienna's Spanish Riding Academy, founded in 1572 to provide training for the Hapsburg nobility and its cavalry. The Lipizzaner breed originally derived from the cross-breeding of Andalusian, Neapolitan and native Slovenian horses; today, the farm is home to 300 white Lipizzaner horses.
