Uncover the history of Toba's fishing traditions and culture with a visit to the Toba Sea-Folk Museum, the only museum in Japan dedicated to understanding the traditions of Toba's fisher-folk, and the relationship between man and the sea. For nearly half a century, the museum has been collecting the antique fishing equipment of fishing villages, and researched the traditions and religion of the area's fisher-folk. The museum's seven sections include "Sea Folk and Festivals," where you'll meet "the Ebisu" god, the Japanese god that brings fortune and harvest. Travel back to the past in the "Wooden Boat and Navigation" exhibit and view a collection of unique and traditional Japanese and Asian wooden boats. And learn the 2,000-year-old history of women divers at "Ama Divers in Shima" exhibit and later at lunch at the Ama Hut Hachiman Kamado where you'll hear tales of the divers' experiences over charcoal-grilled seafood.
