WHAT YOU VISIT
Futamiokitama Shrine
Overlooking Isa Bay, the 100-year-old seaside shrine is dedicated to Miketsu, the Shinto goddess of marriage and marital harmony. You may notice that the shrine features a larger number of stone frogs. In Shinto, frogs are considered to be messengers of the Great God Sarutahiko. Legend has it, being surrounded by the throngs of stone frogs will make any wish come true. Located just a short distance offshore are the "husband and wife" rocks, connected by a rope used in Shinto shrines and rituals; the larger "o-iwa" (male) rock stands about 30 feet tall by 131 feet around, while the smaller "me-iwa" (female) rock is about 13 feet tall by 30 feet around.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
A stop at the Asamayama Observatory of atop 1,820-foot-tall Mt. Asama provides breathtaking views of beautiful Ise Bay, the town of Ise, the Pacific Ocean, and even Mt. Fuji can be seen in a distance on a clear day.
