Don't miss this opportunity to spend the day with noted art and architecture historian Andres Kraas, who'll share stories about Tallinn's struggles for independence from the middle ages through the final freedom fight against the Soviet Union in the 1990's. Start from Toompea Hill, the historical seat of power, stroll to Palace Square, the site of the impressive 18th century Toompea Castle and 120-year-old Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Continue to St. Mary's Cathedral; dating back to 1219, it's Tallinn's oldest church. View the sarcophagi before walking to a scenic overlook for views of Lower Old Town. Next, you'll head to the mysterious Bastion Passages underneath Tallinn's city walls. From here, you'll walk downhill into Lower Old Town for a coffee break and shopping before a coach ride through the city. En route, pass by the Kadriorg area as well as the Song Festival Ground. Visit the memorial to victims of communism which is is dedicated to all Estonian people who suffered under the terror inflicted by the Soviet Union. Before heading back to port, you'll visit the ruins of Pirita Convent, which was attacked and looted by Russian troops in 1577.
