What you will visit:

Blackbeard's Castle
In Charlotte Amalie's historic colonial district, climb the famed 99 Steps (actually 103 steps) to Blackbeard's Castle, named after the infamous pirate who legend tells used it as a lookout and whose memory is commemorated in the courtyards with a bronze statue. The castle has a large pool as well as former manor houses-Villa Notman, Britannia House, Crown House (once used by visiting Danish Royalty) and Haagensen House-all listed in the National Register of Historic Places. History comes alive as you view the world's largest collection of life-sized pirate sculptures, crafted in copper and bronze, and the world's most extensive collection of authentic handmade West Indian mahogany furniture.

Kongens (King's) Quarter
Kongens (King's) Quarter is the former center of Danish colonial enterprise and the heart of the historic shopping district. Also known as "The Williamsburg of the Caribbean," it is home to several National Landmark Properties and historical manor houses set on approximately five acres of grounds dating as far back as the late 1600s. From here, start your historical walking tour at your own pace.

What you will see along the way:

St. Thomas is mountainous and offers spectacular views, notably from Skyline Drive Overlook, a premier spot for panoramic vistas of the harbor, Charlotte Amalie, Hassel Island, Water Island and more.

Photo Opportunity:

Drake's Seat
Make sure you have your camera ready to capture the picture-perfect views from Drake's Seat, the lookout point at the top of one of St. Thomas's many mountains where Sir Francis Drake was said to keep an eye out for pirates and invading naval ships approaching from the north via Drake's Passage, also bearing his name.

The 99 Steps
Pass by lush tropical gardens, terraces and fountains to snap photos of the 99 Steps. One of St. Thomas's most famous landmarks, it was built in the 1700s to make climbing Government Hill a bit easier.

Caribbean World Amber Waterfall
Cascading two stories down and composed of over 12,000 stones of amber, this handcrafted fountain located at Hotel 1829, once a 19th-century home, is found at the end of the self-guided trail through Blackbeard's Castle. The perfect selfie spot!
