Meet you guide and descend to the St. Petersburg Metro for a ride into the city center.

Construction on the Metro began in 1940 only to be interrupted by the Second World War. Construction was completed in 1955. Modeled on the Paris Metro, the subway boasts the same elegant style of Belle Epoque stations, though St. Petersburg's Metro lies unusually deep underground, a result of soft upper strata. Stay close to your guide as you descend into the Metro and board your car.

Enjoy a refreshment stop at a restaurant in the city center. Then take a short drive or walk to the Food Market. Browse the stalls, which display an array of produce, from garden vegetables to fresh poultry and local honey. The vendors are warm and welcoming. Then set off on your guided walking tour.

A short motorcoach drive will take you to Art Square, home to a number of Russian cultural treasures. Surrounding the square are the Russian Museum, once the Mikhailovsky Palace, and Philharmonic Hall, the site of important musical premieres by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Shostokovich. The square is adorned with a statue of Russian's revered poet Alexander Pushkin.

Continue past the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. Recently restored, the church boasts an intricate,fantastic and multicolored façade with Cyrillic crosses and onion domes. The church occupies the spot where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated. Enjoy some time to browse for souvenirs at one of the neighboring souvenir stores.

Meet your motorcoach at the conclusion of your walking tour for the return to your ship.
