What you will visit:
Marigot
The capital of French St. Martin, Marigot was once a petite fishing village and was made the capital during King Louis XVI's reign. He built Fort St. Louis on a hilltop to protect the town, which is now a charming enclave of gingerbread houses, classic bistros, and bustling outdoor markets. Kept temperate by trade winds, Marigot stays sunny and warm year-round with tropical scenery and picturesque views around every corner.
What you will see along the way:
As you circle the island on your narrated motorcoach tour, you'll learn the history of the Lesser Antilles and see such highlights as the Dutch/French border and Orient Bay, a favorite celebrity haunt. You'll see Grand Case fisherman's village and the Marigot Waterfront, the capital of French St. Martin. The white sands of Mullet Bay Beach and Maho Beach are famed for the airplanes that fly overhead. Harold Jack Hill and Great Bay make great viewing points, and the Dutch side of the island holds its capital, Philipsburg.
Photo Opportunities:
There is so much to photograph on this tour-make sure to bring your best lenses. In addition to the specific top 10 spots, aim your camera at the quaint colonial houses, sidewalk cafés, bistros, pastry shops and stores that are reminiscent of a French market town.
Snack:
A stop is made at Carousel Gelateria, a 16-sided structure studded with cerulean tiles. The gelato (at your own expense) is made daily with only the finest ingredients.
Shopping: (on your own)
Because Marigot is only four streets wide, it is easy to shop and to experience all it has to offer. Remember, all items are tax- and duty-free, and you will most likely be quoted prices in American dollars, which makes shopping a pleasure. Vendors sell everything from food delicacies to apparel, handicrafts and souvenirs. The lively atmosphere and hustle and bustle make for a fun filled shopping experience.
