Signal Hill & St. John's Coastal Hike

Your outdoor adventure begins following a short transfer on a city transit bus to the start of your hike atop Signal Hill at Cabot Tower, which was built in 1897 to commemorate the 400th year anniversary of Newfoundland's discovery. From here, 800 feet above sea level, you'll begin your primarily downhill hike while your naturalist guide explains the unique flora and fauna typical of Newfoundland. Take in the breathtaking scenery and panoramic views. The trail also features rugged coastal vistas and geological wonders, including giant boulders, jagged and erratic in size, that were left behind by ancient glaciers thousands of years ago. The trail ends at the fishing village called the Battery, which is situated on the steep hills overlooking St. John's Harbour. Head back on foot towards the ship on the New World's first European street, pausing at the spot recognized as the birthplace of the British Empire.

Special Notes:

This is approximately a two hour walk over terrain that is uneven and has many loose rocks. Those with vertigo should not participate. The bus is utilized to transfer passengers to the starting point of the walk (about 10 minutes). Good walking shoes are strongly recommended. There are a number of steps that must be negotiated. No bathrooms are available.
