Begin your adventure with a journey on the famed White Pass & Yukon Route Railway to the summit of the White Pass. Built in 1898 as a way to expedite travel during the Klondike Gold Rush, this historic attraction is a three-foot-wide narrow gauge railroad that climbs from sea level to almost 3,000 feet in the first 20 miles. An engineering marvel, it features two tunnels and travels over sky-high trestles and bridges. Considered an impossible feat, the railway was completed in 26 months by blasting through mountains with 450 tons of explosives. Fully restored, the comfortable rail cars feature large picture windows and are pulled by vintage diesel locomotives.

Back in Skagway, take a scenic motorcoach ride through the downtown historic district to the Gold Rush Cemetery for a recounting of the deeds done by the colorful characters of the city's early days and to see their final resting place. Finally, visit The Lookout, a photographer's delight offering a panoramic view of the Skagway Valley, glacier-clad mountains, Lynn Canal and your cruise ship. Your tour concludes with a scenic drive back to the pier or, should you choose, you can remain in town and explore Skagway. Passengers remaining in town are responsible to return to the ship on their own.
