Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
Skagen, sometimes referred to as the 'land of light,' enjoys more hours of sunshine than anywhere else in Denmark, which could explain why this charming seaside resort became a mecca for artists in the 19th century. As one of Europe's most famous artist's colonies, its scenery and quality of light attracted many Danish, Scandinavian and European painters. Gain insight into its history, the painters and their works with a curator-guided tour of the Skagen Museum. Founded in 1908 by the Skagen Painters, the museum boasts thousands of paintings, drawings, sculptures and handicrafts from 1870 to 1935. Next, you'll visit Anchers Hus, home of Anna and Michael Ancher, two of the era's most famous painters. Another noted artist is Holger Drachmann, known as the original founder of the Skagen Painters. Like Anchers Hus, the interior has been beautifully preserved and works by the artists are prominently featured.
