Discover Erice, an ancient medieval town, high atop the sea, set against an azure sky with puffy white clouds. A walking tour is the best way to explore the charms of its narrow cobblestone streets and historic sights. Your four-hour tour begins with a motorcoach ride through the countryside of Sicily. Disembark and walk uphill to the Porta Trapani, one of several Norman gates that guard the entrance to this walled town. See the Castle of Venus, dedicated to the goddess of love and surrounded by the English-style Balio Gardens. Nearby, the dramatic Pepoli Castle, built by a count in 1872, seems to rise from the rocks. Erice has a plethora of churches to admire, each one distinct and filled with treasured artifacts. Petite artisan shops display colorful Sicilian ceramics, and the scent of almond biscuits, a local treat, beckons you into the pastry shops. Return to port via a picturesque route.
