The art and architecture created during the Sicily's Norman period is categorized by a Romanesque style developed during the 11th and 12th centuries. Your half-day adventure, introduces you to Palermo's Norman hermitage via a panoramic tour and a visit to two of its most significant landmarks. Your motorcoach takes you through the heart of Palermo's old historic district, leading up to the grand Palazzo dei Normanni, home of the Sicilian parliament. Located within the Palazzo dei Normanni, you'll find the Palatine Chapel, featuring an extraordinary example of mosaic work, detailed biblical images and intricate carvings. Then, travel to the Cathedral of Palermo, modified, renovated and restored over time with Arab, Byzantine, Norman, Swabian, Gothic, Romanesque, Renaissance and baroque appointments. Step through the huge bronze doors into a splendid sanctuary literally covered in Byzantine and Venetian tile work spanning 68,220 feet in total.
