Indulge in two popular Messina pastimes – sightseeing and shopping. First on your itinerary is a drive up the slopes of Mount Etna 6,233 feet above sea level past the lava fields to the Silvestri Craters. Created by the lava flow, these small craters, inactive since the massive eruption of 1892, are set amid bare fields of gray lava that stretch for miles. A walk up to the edge of the craters reveals 360-degree views of earth, sea and sky. Photos taken, after tasting a sicilian cannolo you'll drive back down and on to Giarre for a tour of the Gival jewelry workshop. After a refreshing cocktail you'll see the process that goes into each piece made from precious stones, Mediterranean coral and lava stone. Later, you can visit the exhibition room and purchase one of these works of wearable art. Your day ends with a drive back to Messina.
Special Notes:
A jacket and comfortable closed shoes are recommended. In case unfavorable weather conditions do not permit a safe visit to Mt. Etna and the Silvestri Crater, these will be replaced by a panoramic drive around Mt. Etna, a visit to the village of Zafferana Etnea and the 1992 eruption lava flow vulcanic landscape.Medical Restriction:
