Walking shoes and a good camera are all you need to make the most of this day exploring the incredible natural wonders of Sicily. It's a two-hour scenic drive from the pier to Mount Etna, Europe's tallest volcano at 10,940 feet. Travel a winding road around the mountain's slopes, past lava fields all the way to the Silvestri Spent Craters. At 6,000 feet above sea level, the views are breathtaking, and you will disembark to have a better look around. After filling your camera with dramatic photographs, reboard and begin the descent into the fertile valley, where the lava-infused soil produces the famous Etna wine. During your visit you will be offered refreshments in one of the local restaurants.Continue on to Alcantara Gorge, lush parklands where black lava walls reach almost 200 feet high and plunge into sparkling waters. Walk along a series of trails, take in the dizzying views and stroll among a variety of flora and fauna. Relax on the picturesque drive to port.
Special Notes:
In case unfavorable weather conditions do not permit a safe visit to Mt. Etna and the Silvestri Crater, these will be replaced by a panoramic drive around Mt. Etna, a visit to the village of Zafferana Etnea and the 1992 eruption lava flow vulcanic landscape.Details
