Explore the extraordinary landscape that lies just outside of Lerwick on an adventure that includes stunning scenery, views of an ancient broch, Shetland's first lighthouse and possible wildlife sightings. From the pier, you'll travel south along the coastline-a beautiful sight formed by glaciers, rivers and relentless sea waves. Have your cameras ready for a stop at Mousa viewpoint where you can look across to the Broch of Mousa, the finest preserved example of a round tower in Shetland. Continuing south, you'll stop at the spectacular and dramatic Sumburgh Head cliffs, site of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Dedicated to the survival of wildlife, the reserve is home to 21 species of seabirds totaling a million in the various colonies. Follow your knowledgeable local guide around the reserve and you may be lucky enough to spot puffins, dolphins, orca or minke whales. Enjoy an outside visit to the 205-year-old Sumburgh Head Lighthouse, then step inside the visitor center to view exhibits or visit the gift shop.
