Discover the small, tranquil and picturesque Mousa Island. Departing your ship, you'll board the Mousa Ferry. After a short ride across the water, you'll arrive at the tiny island that's been uninhabited since the 19th century. Mousa's abundant wildlife makes it one of the best locations in Shetland to watch the shy, but nosey Common and Grey seals, see an abundance of breeding seabirds, including Arctic Terns, Arctic Skuas and their larger relatives the Great Skua as well as the tiny, nocturnal Storm Petrels. You can visit the ruins of Mousa Broch, the tallest standing broch in the world, built without mortar between 100 B.C. and 100 A.D. Once inside, you can explore its beehive chamberss, or climb an internal staircase to an open walkway at the top for panoramic views of the island.
Special Notes:
Approximately 2 hours are spent on Mousa Island, a bird reserve. Tour participants are welcome to walk around the island on their own. No restroom facilities are available on the island.Dress appropriately; sturdy walking boots are recommended and a wind and waterproof jacket.
Please note that this tour may cancel at short notice (Including on the day), due to bad weather/Sea Conditions. The decision of this will be made by the boat captain, and will be based on the safety of the passengers.
