What you will visit:
Mirrie Dancers Chocolatier
Beautiful bespoke chocolates are artistically displayed in Mirrie Dancers, an artisan chocolate shop opened in 2016. The name is the Shetland term for the Northern Lights, and local owner and master chocolatier Dave Williams has infused the magical colors of the aurora borealis into each rich and tasty hand-made chocolate morsel. These exquisite bites of art are crafted with locally sourced ingredients and unique flavor combinations. This exclusive tour offers the opportunity to meet with Dave Williams, learn all about the wonderful properties of chocolate, sample some of his creations and depart with a wee gift.
What you will see along the way:
If you choose to explore independently, a stroll through Lerwick, the capital town of Shetland, is an opportunity to get to know this sheltered stretch of water between the mainland of Shetland and the island of Bressay. Walk past Market Cross to see the Tolbooth, Lerwick's lifeboat station, and the cobbled Commercial Street, which is lined with merchant homes and warehouses and leads to the Town Hall. In the center of town is Fort Charlotte, which affords breathtaking town views from its battlements.
Tasting:
Chocolatier Dave Williams will offer a tasting of some of his creations. Each artfully designed chocolate bite incorporates locally sourced ingredients. Mirrie Dancers sells unique flavors found nowhere else in the world as well as classics reimagined with a modern twist.
Shopping:
You'll want to take home some of the incredible chocolates from Mirrie Dancer Artisan Chocolate Shop. The scrumptious chocolate bars come in such inventive flavors as Matcha Tea and Raspberry; Seeds 'n' Dates; Strawberry Fields; and The Movies, which is pure Belgian chocolate with real toffee pieces, popcorn and a hint of Shetland sea salt. There are also pralines and truffles in every color and flavor imaginable. If you choose to stay in town to do additional shopping, popular souvenirs include locally made crafts and famous Shetland woolens.
Special Notes:
