Discover the beauty of one of Iceland's most remote places on an outdoor-enthusiast's adventure to the Skalanes Nature Reserve. Begin your 3.5-hour exploit with a scenic drive to Porarinsstaoir, a significant archaeological site, with ruins from the first years of settlement. Pause for a photo stop then continue through a picturesque valley surrounded by mountains and quaint, abandoned farms. You'll soon arrive at Skalanes Nature and Heritage Center, located within a traditional Icelandic farmhouse. This 1,250-hectare nature preserve is dedicated to sustainability, research and protection of this vast natural habitat. It is home to more than 45 species of birds that seek shelter here in the summer months, in particular eider ducks can be spotted in the area. A wonderful opportunity to commune with nature awaits on the optional half-mile guided coastal-cliff walk. Pause for quick refreshment before returning to port.
Special Notes:
Kindly note that the running order of visited sites might vary. Views are weather permitting. This is a physically active tour which requires passengers to walk for over an hour on uneven terrain. Dress according to local weather conditions with good footwear (closed-toe recommended) with a rubber or non-slip sole. We recommend layers, the outer being wind/waterproof. Bring camera. The supplier uses a 38 seater 4x4 for this tour and the bus crosses a small river to get to Skalanes. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.Details
