Explore the incredible natural wonders of Nicaragua's volcanic landscapes on a full-day guided adventure that begins when you board a motorcoach for a scenic drive to Catarina Viewpoint for photographic views of the Apoyo Crater, formed 23,000 years ago, now an enormous lagoon. Standing at the crater's edge, you will also see towering Mombacho Volcano in the distance. Continue on to Masaya Volcano National Park, established in 1979, for views of is volcanoes, steam-spewing fumaroles, lush forest and crater lagoon. Masaya Volcano, dubbed "the mouth of hell," is still active. Its early eruptions were believed to be signs of anger from the gods, and sacrifices were made to appease them. Your return trip offers a change of scenery as you visit the colonial city of Granada, nestled on the shore of Lake Nicaragua, for a lovely buffet lunch before heading back to the port.
