WHAT YOU VISIT
-Tikal Archeological Site
Rising high above the treetops in the Guatemalan jungle stands the renowned archaeological site of Tikal. Dating back to 400 B.C., the city grew to become the most powerful of the Mayan cities during the Classic Period (200 to 900 A.D.). Archaeologists have identified over 4,000 stone structures and many remain buried under trees and brush.

Upon arrival, you'll head out through the lush jungle to Tikal. At the site, your knowledgeable guide will lead you on a narrated hike along dirt roads and pathways of the ancient 'city of voices' to the impressive 154-foot-tall Great Jaguar Temple, which offers a hint to the treasures you'll discover. Marvel at the sight of the skyscraping 230-foot-tall Temple IV, Tikal's tallest pyramid; the 125-foot-tall Temple of the Mask, the North Acropolis, Palace of the Masks, Pyramid IV and more.

Recognized by UNESCO as 'one of the most important archaeological complexes left by the Maya civilization,' you're sure to find photo-worthy shots around every corner. The 988-acre complex includes palaces, temples, ceremonial platforms, small and medium sized residences, ball-game courts, terraces, roads, large and small squares. Many of the existing monuments preserve decorated surfaces, including stone carvings and mural paintings with hieroglyphic inscriptions.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
After your one-hour flight from Puerto Quetzal to the town of Flores, you'll journey through the jungle aboard a bus. Slowly, the pyramid temples of the once powerful Jaguar clan of the Mayans will rise above the treetops.
