The Khutzeymateen Valley is home to Canada's only grizzly bear sanctuary. Travel by 72-foot catamaran, designed for wildlife viewing, on this full-day adventure that sails through stunning scenery, with towering cliffs, dense forests and a thriving estuary ecosystem. As you journey through Chatham Sound, your knowledgeable crew will regale you with stories about life in the surrounding villages and will help you spot Dall's porpoise, Steller sea lions, playful seals, and a variety of seabirds. After cruising for just over two hours, you will reach an area uninhabited by humans, with hills lush with Sitka spruce and hemlocks. More than 50 grizzly bears live in these hills. The bears often feed on the vegetation that is in relatively close proximity to the shore. Your boat will float silently and give you an excellent chance of sightings, so bring a camera and binoculars. On your two-hour return to Prince Rupert, refresh with a deli sandwich. Arrive at port with fabulous photos and memories.
Special Notes:
This tour includes approximately 5 minutes of walking between the cruise ship pier and tour boat dock and there is a ramp to negotiate, which can be steep at low tide. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. This tour only operates during peak bear seasons. Please wear comfortable walking (water-resistant) shoes and dress warmly.Details
