Reunion Island is a hidden treasure offering the curious traveller a spectacular touring experience. With an active volcano, sandy beaches, lush farmlands, waterfalls and lychee plantations, there really is something for everyone, and this tour is designed to showcase the best of the island's natural beauty.
After meeting your friendly guide at the pier, you will immediately head out of town for a scenic drive along the northern coast of the island, hugging the stunning coastline that buffers the azure blue ocean.
Passing through the capital city of St. Denis, and the towns of St. Marie and St. Suzanne, you will be struck by how green the countryside is. As you journey along, your guide will point out the abundant sugarcane fields, vanilla and lychee plantations, Creole homesteads and Tamil temples.
Your first stop of the day is a colorful vanilla plantation, where you will learn how vanilla-essence is produced. One of the island's main sources of income, vanilla has been farmed here since 1841, when Edmond Albius discovered how to pollinate the flower of the vanilla orchid by hand. After your tour, you will be able to buy the vanilla in the small co-operative shop.
Leaving the plantation, you will then turn inland toward the cirque of Salazie, to view the amazing fields of watercress and arbors of cabbage palms, before stopping at Bride's Veil, the island's spectacular cascading waterfall.
Hopping back on to the bus, you will then enjoy another beautiful panoramic photostop at the Day viewpoint, an ideal place to take pictures and capture the singular beauty of Reunion.
Then it's time for relaxing rest stop as you head to a local hotel or restaurant near Hell-Bourg, to sample some tasty, traditional Creole food for lunch – this may include goat curry or spiced vegetables.
Once you have savored this unique cuisine, you will climb back on to the bus and head towards the island's capital, St. Denis, to enjoy a brief shopping expedition, before making your way back to the pier through more glorious countryside.
