Outdoor enthusiasts will thrill to the opportunity to discover the serenity and beauty of Queen Charlotte Sound from the seat of a kayak. Your approximately four-hour adventure includes two hours of paddling. No previous kayaking experience is required, but a good level of fitness and mobility is needed. Board the motorcoach for a short drive through Whenuanui Bay Scenic Reserve, to the sheltered Ngakuta Bay and the kayak staging area. Meet your guides and receive your double-seat kayak, equipment, route orientation and safety briefing. No prior kayaking experience is required. Set out along Queen Charlotte Sound and enjoy the beauty of the rugged coastline, dotted with bays, coves and small sandy beaches. The nutrient-rich waters of the sound glisten from turquoise to emerald and attract seals, seabirds and other wildlife. Look to the skies for ubiquitous seabirds, and if you're lucky you may see blue penguins, the world's smallest species of penguin, that dive to feed on fish. After exploring the pristine shoreline and secluded coves, return to the motorcoach for the picturesque drive back to port.
