A fascinating glimpse of the aircraft of WWI can be found at the Omaka Aviation Heritage Center. Your adventure takes off with a scenic 30-minute drive through the foothills of the Richmond Range to Blenheim. Board a miniature railway that runs along the banks of the Taylor River for a 30-minute ride, then arrive at the museum. Here, you'll peruse a fascinating collection that blends faithful replicas and authentic aircraft. Many of the aircraft are on loan to the museum from Hollywood film director Peter Jackson. The facility presents lifelike displays comprised of a spectacular collection of static and airworthy aircraft as well as a memorabilia collection dedicated to Germany's fighter ace Manfred von Richthofen (the Red Baron). En route back to port, you'll make a stop at the famous Makana Chocolate Factory. View fine chocolates being handmade and sample the finished products, a sweet ending to this engaging day.
