Phillip Island has so much to offer where do you begin? May we suggest an orientation excursion that boasts some of this treasured isle's most popular points of interest? Perfect for the first time visitor or for those looking to get reacquainted with one of Australia's hottest getaways, this 90-minute excursion takes you from one end of the island to the other. During the outing, you'll have some free time to take photos or explore on your own.
Your leisurely tour begins at the jetty where you'll board your coach. Your friendly and knowledgeable drive will provide interesting commentary as you make your way all the way to the tip of the island's southwest corner known as the Summerland Peninsula. Here sits the Nobbies, a pair of large, craggy rocks that poke out of the water like knobs when the tide is at the right level. Looking out beyond the Nobbies you can see Seal Rocks, home to one of the largest fur seal populations in Australia. Nearby Summerland Beach is the site of the nightly Penguin Parade when the world's smallest penguin waddles upon the sand after a hard day fishing.
From here you'll journey inland to the Phillip Island Racing Circuit, a state-of-the-art racetrack that boasts go karts and slot car racing for the kids and adrenalin-pumping rides with an experienced race car driver.
Next, you'll journey south to Cape Woolamai, Phillip Island's highest point and one of Victoria's most popular surfing beaches. Overlooking Bass Strait, the region is recognized as a National Surfing Reserve in recognition of its rich surfing heritage and pristine natural environment of golden, sweeping beaches.
Finally, You'll drive through the fishing village of Rhyll, tucked on the island's northeast corner. The small town is a haven for pelicans, black swans, gulls and straw-necked ibis but its claim to fame may be the Koala Conservation Center where you can come face-to-face with koalas in their natural habitat. Your journey ends back at Rhyll Jetty for the tender ride back to your ship.
For tours that offer more in-depth exploration with actual visits to one or more sites, see the other options in this port.
