Description
Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
The many castles of Northumberland reflect the turbulent history of the county that includes raids from the Vikings, the rule of the lawless Border reivers and battles with Scotland. Travel through a series of heritage villages to Alnwick Castle, the largest and most impressive in the county. The residence of the duke of Northumberland, whose family has lived here since the early 1300s, is a stunning series of towers and battlements that dominate the surrounding countryside. Its forbidding look has inspired many film makers, and the castle has starred in many movies, such as Robin Hood and as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies. Our visit includes the fabulously decorated and furnished staterooms and a walk around the immediate grounds, viewing the battlements and fortifications. From Alnwick, the tour heads south, passing lovely farmland with views to the remote Cheviot, before returning through the outskirts of Newcastle to the ship.
