Peel back the layers of history as you stroll through Acre, where its Crusader past sits above and below the city. Once ruled by Greece, Rome, and Arab empires, Acre flourished during the Crusader period in the 11th century and became its most important port. A century later, it was named the capital of the Kingdom of Jerusalem and had grown to become the largest and richest city in the Crusader kingdom. Once you arrive, you'll be swept away by the picturesque village perched on the Mediterranean coast whose history stretches back over 4,000 years. At its heart is the well-preserved Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As you walk along you may imagine knights practicing their swordplay or walking along a time-forgotten tangle of cobbled alleyways. Then, feast your senses on the delectable goods at Acre's vibrant bazaar before returning to Haifa.
