Embark on a leisurely coach tour of Napier and learn how it became famous as the "Art Deco City." Destroyed in the early 1930s following a major earthquake, the city was rebuilt and the new buildings reflected the style of the times: innovative geometric shapes, Spanish mission, Art Deco, and some incorporated, unique Maori motifs. Continue to the Napier seashore and one of the city's most popular destinations – the picturesque Marine Parade sea walk, past the sunken gardens and the Spirit of Napier sculpture (which represents Napier rising from the ashes of the devastating earthquake), and into the suburbs for views of the city and Hawke's Bay. Travel through the Marewa District, noted for its many Art Deco homes and later, you'll be dropped off at the Aquarium, where you'll enjoy free time to enjoy the display of aquatic life. A shuttle will return you to port.
