Get up close and personal with the quaint town of Nanortalik, the 10th largest town in Greenland, on a guided walking tour. Founded in 1797 as a Danish whaling station, Nanortalik's name means "the place with polar bears," so keep an eye out for the stately creatures hitching a ride on the offshore floes. With fewer than 1,500 inhabitants, the town may be small, but it boasts several historic attractions and friendly locals who delight in sharing their culture with visitors. The charming streets are lined with brightly painted houses, and you'll pass such sites as the police station, school and fire department while your guide provides details and fun facts. You will visit the Nanortaik Museum for a historical perspective on the town. Ask questions -- your guide is happy to share his/her local knowledge. .

Special Notes:

Guests should bring mosquito nets, mosquito repellent, and good walking shoes and should dress according to the weather conditions. Toilet facilities will not be available.

All of the sights you'll see on tour are accessible on foot from the tender pier, but your guide offers perspectives that you may not be aware of if you explore on your own.

The level of guide experience varies due to the remoteness of the location. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here, and you are trading breadth of experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any language difficulties your guide may encounter and with any operational surprises that may crop up.
