What you will visit:

Nanortalik

Greenland's 10th-largest and most southerly town, Nanortalik is nestled in a picturesque area set against the backdrop of dramatic mountains and the towering walls of Tasermiut Fjord. Nanortalik means "the place with polar bears," a nod to the creatures that may be spotted hitching a ride on the offshore floes. With fewer than 1,500 inhabitants, the town may be small, but it boasts several historic attractions; the Qinngua Valley, the only forest in all of Greenland; and friendly, genuine locals who delight in sharing their lives and thriving culture with visitors.

Hiking Expedition
Greenland's stunning scenery offers outdoor adventures for everyone. The Tasermiut region, known as the "Alps" of the island, has gained popularity worldwide for its unlimited and challenging climbs. At 2,000 meters, Ketil Mountain is one of the highest climbing walls in the world. By contrast, the Qinngua Valley boasts the warmest climate in Greenland and is home to the island's only natural forest, where some 300 species of plants grow alongside the gray leaf willow, downy birch and Greenland mountain ash trees.

What you will see along the way:

Brightly painted houses and charming local sites greet you on a walk through town. Nanortalik lies at the mouth of Tasermiut Fjord, surrounded by immense mountain peaks overlooking an iceberg-dotted bay. A hike through the rugged terrain reveals both scenic vistas of endless sky and fields of wildflowers as well as lush alpine landscapes, rocky coastline, glaciers and possibly a polar bear hitching a ride on a floating iceberg.

Special Notes:

Guests should bring mosquito nets, mosquito repellent, and good walking shoes and should dress according to the weather conditions. Toilet facilities will not be available.
