Discover picturesque Shimabara Peninsula on a scenic drive and visit to the quaint 17th-century "castle town." Board your motorcoach and travel to the mountainous Shimabara Peninsula. Shimabara Castle is situated in the center of this historic old town, and is a superlative example of the classic Japanese castle design. Now a historical museum centering on the 1637 Battle of Shimabara, exhibits focus on early Christianity in Japan and display swords, armor and cultural artifacts. Then, walk through charming Shimabara and visit a traditional "samurai village." Continue to a local restaurant for a Japanese lunch. Refreshed, drive to Peace Memorial Park. It is located near Ground Zero, the center of the blast, and is home to a beautiful memorial fountain and the 30-foot-high "Statue of Peace." A leisurely motorcoach drive returns you to port.

Special Notes:

The drive between Nagasaki and Shimabara is approximately two hours each way.

This tour involves climbing steep stairs and crossing uneven ground. Inside Shimabara Castle has no lift or slopes. This tour is not considered suitable for passengers with walking difficulties. Wear comfortable, low-heeled walking shoes.
