St. James Parish Church
One of the oldest and fastest-growing parishes on the island, St. James Parish Church was originally built between 1775 and 1782 but was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1957. Its interior is considered one of the most beautiful in Jamaica, with a stunning stained-glass depicting the Crucifixion and several marble monuments, including works by John Bacon, an 18th-century English sculptor.
Local School Visit
The Mt. Olive Basic School is a warm and inviting early education center, where local children learn and play in a rural, countryside setting. The arrival of visitors is met with much excitement, and the students proudly show their little classroom and perform folk songs and poems.
John's Hall Estate and Plantation
Nestled in the mountainous countryside, John's Hall estate and plantation is an oasis of exotic beauty and living nature that celebrates the island's historical richness and scenic splendor. A guided nature walk through the grounds introduces exotic fruit trees and an abundance of tropical vegetation, plants and blooming flowers. A bird sanctuary displays a variety of colorful species, and an herb garden affords the opportunity to learn about traditional herbal remedies and medicinal plants. An authentic Jamaican lunch is served on the lush premises.
