Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

The glamorous principality of Monaco, playground to the rich and the famous, might be tiny, but it packs a punch with its history, culture and spectacular scenery. At just three miles long and a half mile wide, Monaco is the second-smallest country in the world, after Vatican City. This fortified town sits high atop a rock overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. In addition to its stunning views and old-world charms, it boasts several significant historic landmarks as well as a maze of narrow streets that house shops and typical French cafes. Your walking tour includes the Prince's Palace, home to the Grimaldi family, and the nearby St. Nicholas Cathedral, the final resting place of Princess Grace and her husband, Prince Rainier.

A pedestrian tour is the best way to enjoy all this tiny state has to offer. Begin this half-day tour with an energetic walk from the pier to The Rock, and head to the top of the promontory into Old Town.

In Monaco, all roads lead to the Prince's Palace, the home of the royal family since the 13th century. If the flag is waving outside, Prince Albert II is in residence. Monaco has been ruled for generations by the same family, the Grimaldis, and their royal palace is still used in the day-to-day operations of the country. Located in a dramatic setting overlooking the principality and the sea, the Prince's Palace began life as a fortress built by the Genoese in 1215. The Grimaldis have held the principality for over 600 years. You'll have a chance to see the Throne Room, which has hosted important ceremonies since the 16th century, and the ornate state apartments.

One of the most luxurious palaces on earth, it showcases diverse architectural styles from many eras. The palace's state apartments, which were originally designed in the 16th century and renovated in the 18th century, were heavily influenced by the Palace of Versailles. Highlights include the dramatic royal portraits in the Salon Rooms and murals in the Throne Room depicting the surrender of Alexander the Great.

You'll also see the outside of the Saint Nicholas Cathedral, the beautiful Byzantine-style church where Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier and is now buried.

At the conclusion of your tour, walk back to port. If you'd like to stay longer in this captivating city, you can make your way back to port at your leisure.

Special Notes:

Security controls at Prince Palace are very strict. Waiting time to enter the palace can be over 30 minutes.
