An authentic look at Martinique's northern side begins when you board a colorful, open-air bus for a glimpse into the history and beauty of the island. This half-day adventure sets off to photograph the Balata Church, a miniature version of the famed Sacré-Coeur Basilica in Paris. Your route continues along a winding rainforest road, and you'll stop to snap pictures of picturesque Alma River. Then, travel to the Gendarme waterfall for a short walk with enjoying this natural water for refreshing, past the rainforest, a mountain village on the way to Saint-Pierre. This historic village, founded in 1635, was once the "Paris of the Caribbean" and the thriving cultural capital of Martinique until the eruption of Mount Pelée left it in ruins. Here, you'll discover the old theater and the village's history with your guide. Next, family operated St Pierre Distillery, producer of some of the finest small-batch rum on the island, welcomes you to sample its elixirs, made from freshly pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses. Conclude with a panoramic tour through quaint fishing villages. Return to port.
