View some of the spectacular scenery for which Madeira is renowned and head out towards the east with stops at Pináculo, where there are excellent views over the town and bay of Funchal. Then off to Ponta do Garajau which is famous for the statue of Christ the Redeemer that stands there, looking out at sea with outstretched arms as well as its views over Funchal and the Natural Park of Garajau. Enjoy lunch at Poiso, where you will sample traditional Madeira cuisine accompanied by red or white wine, rounded off with a glass of Madeira and coffee, and a local folklore group to entertain you while you dine. After lunch, your tour proceeds to the village of Monte, notable for many fine properties and gardens established in or near the village. Perched on a hill above Funchal, Monte's twin-towered, 18th-century church is a notable landmark where the statue of Our Lady of Monte (circa 15 century) resides and is credited with being the source of many miracles. Inside the church you will also find the tomb of Charles I, the last Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire who died in Madeira in exile, in 1922. Then enjoy a toboggan ride down the hill in wicker sledges, once an established form of transport. When you return to Funchal, your tour will proceed to a wine lodge where you are invited to join a tasting of some fine Madeira wine, world famous for over 400 years.
