Enjoy unsurpassed scenery as transfer from Funchal via Sao Martinho into the Socorrido Ravine. Depart the pier and travel north-west to Pico dos Barcelos to admire the stunning views of Funchal and the southern coast.
Continue along the winding road which offers spectacular views en route to Eira do Serrado. Here a short ascent on an easy path leads to the summit of Pico do Serrado (about 3,000 feet). There are superb views of Madeira's highest peaks and the Curral das Freiras village below, a hamlet so remote that the Santa Clara Convent Nuns used it as an escape from the pirate raids of the 16th century.
A short stop will be made for coffee, scones, Chantilly and jam are a perfect pick - me - up before your coach continues to Terreiro da Luta. The Peace Monument is a large column of rough basalt erected in 1925 and surmounted by a statue of the Virgin and Child before returning back to Funchal passing though the village of Monte and back to the pier
