Board your motorcoach and drive through Funchal, passing the picturesque fishing village of Camara de Lobos, a favorite haunt of Sir Winston Churchill in the 1950s. Drive past vineyards, terraced fields, pinewoods and eucalyptus groves to the cliff top of Cabo Girao. This second-highest sea cliff in the world is a sheer drop of over 1,500 feet to the waves below, affording dramatic views of the coast and Funchal in the distance. En route to the Wine Lodge, stop at Pico dos Barcelos for panoramic views of Funchal with its red-tiled roofs. Then, head to The Blandy Wine Lodge. Established in 1811, Blandy's is one of the oldest and most respected producers of Madeira. Visit the wine lodge and learn about the four different types of Madeira wine and sample two varieties. You'll have an opportunity to purchase bottles of wine before returning back to your ship.
