WHAT YOU VISIT
Longyearbyen
Named after American entrepreneur John Munro Longyear, head of the Arctic Coal Company who founded the town in 1907, Longyearbyen is a delightful, colorful town that's fun to explore. Here, streets have no names, reindeer wander through town, and it's home to the world's most northerly church, post office, commercial airport and university. Get acquainted with its charm during a guided tour that begins at the harbor. After the scenic drive you'll be dropped off at the town center, where you'll have two hours to explore on your own.

SNACKS
You may choose to purchase a coffee and a handmade pastry at the bakery, or enjoy specialties at the local restaurants: brunost, a brown cheese that has a sweet, yet somewhat sharp flavor, and gravlak, which is dry-cured salmon, are two must-try local favorites.

SHOPPING
With its great variety of shops, from souvenirs to Nordic jewelry, outdoor clothing and galleries, there is a lot to see, and remember that Longyearbyen is tax and duty free!

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Once aboard your bus, your guide is ready to show you the highlights of the town and its most scenic spots and share its history. Learn how coal led to the town's creation and why you may have to remove your shoes when visiting many of the town's stores, restaurants, and other businesses (so you won't bring in the coal dust!).

Special Notes:

Approximately 1 hour of narrated sightseeing and 2 hours of free time in town. It is not possible to leave items on the coach during the free time. Transfer time is around 15 minutes.
