Your half-day tour begins with a drive inland to Sesela, a craft village known for its ketak (wood) and cukli (pearl shell) carvings. You'll be awestruck as the artisans carve masks and other decorative wall hangings, calligraphy, frames, lattice, animals, trees or storage boxes. Your next stop is Banyumulek, a local village renowned for its earthenware. Tour the local village on a 'Cidomo' - a traditional horse cart that the locals still use as transport - and witness the skilled villagers process clay into beautiful export quality pottery. The village pottery, produced from local red clay, has long been esteemed by connoisseurs for its color, elegant shapes and embossed decoration. You'll observe the potting practice, working the local clay using traditional techniques and natural, local materials. Before you board your motorcoach for your drive back to the pier, you'll have time to browse and take home a piece of Banyumulek pottery or two.
