Wear your most comfortable walking shoes, as this guided tour is designed to take you all over this fascinating city. Beginning in the narrow streets of the Alfama, Lisbon's old Moorish Quarter, visit Se Cathedral, the oldest church in the city, constructed in 1147. Emerging from the old district, stroll near the banks of the Tagus, around Black Horse Square, which features fine 18th-century neoclassical buildings. Then walk up the pedestrianized Rua Augusta to Rossio Square in Lisbon's central shopping district. Ride the funicular, 'Elevador da Gloria', or if unavailable the Eiffel 'Santa Justa Lift', from Restauradores Square, to the old neighborhood of Bairro Alto, once the residence of the city's wealthy merchants. The many lifts and funiculars were built to ease the steep climb up Lisbon's seven hills, but today they offer stunning views of the city. Enjoy browsing for gifts in the Chiado Quarter, a popular shopping district.
