The Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica is the world's first sloth-only facility and was featured in "Meet the Sloths" on Animal Planet. Many sloths arrive at the sanctuary injured, orphaned or abandoned. The knowledgeable and caring staff members tend to the animals until they are ready to be released onto the sanctuary grounds. Ideal for all ages, this delightful half-day tour provides an enriched introduction to sloths and their habitat. After a 40-minute drive, you will meet adult sloth ambassadors in the Learning Center. To fully experience the sloths' natural habitat, glide peacefully in a large canoe along the Estrella River, your local guide pointing out the rainforest foliage and diverse wildlife along the way. Return to port along a scenic route with a brief stop at a banana plantation to learn about the importance of this crop in the local economy.
